JurnalPost.com - Legal education does not stop at understanding theories, articles, or concepts acquired in the classroom. For law students, the experience of seeing firsthand how rules are applied in a work environment is a crucial part of forming a more comprehensive understanding of the legal world.

This experience was gained by students from the Faculty of Law at the 17 Agustus 1945 University (Untag) Surabaya through an internship program at the East Java High Prosecutor's Office.

The internship program provides students with the opportunity to get to know the work environment of law enforcement institutions more closely while understanding how the duties and functions of the prosecutor's office are carried out in practice.

Through this activity, students can connect the theories previously studied in class with the various processes that take place in a professional work environment.

Getting to Know Work Practices in the Prosecutor's Office

During their internship at the East Java High Prosecutor's Office, students gained experience in various aspects of the work, ranging from legal administration, document management, and institutional work mechanisms to the execution of tasks related to law enforcement processes.

This experience provided insight that work in the legal field requires high precision and responsibility.

Every document, administrative process, and inter-departmental coordination plays a role in supporting the smooth operation of the institution's duties.

Students also observed that law enforcement is not only related to court proceedings or the application of legal provisions, but also involves various administrative stages and procedures that must be carried out meticulously.

Connecting Theory with Practice

For law students, being directly in the prosecutor's office environment offers a different experience compared to classroom learning.

Various concepts regarding criminal law, criminal procedure law, the authority of law enforcement agencies, and case administration that were previously understood theoretically can be seen applied more concretely.

This experience helps students understand that legal theory has a direct connection to the procedures and practices carried out by law enforcement institutions.

From this process, students can see the importance of accuracy in every stage of work because decisions or actions in the legal field can have broad consequences.

Learning Ethics and Professionalism

The internship also serves as a learning space regarding professional ethics.

Students are not only required to complete assigned tasks but also learn to adapt to the work environment, follow rules, maintain their attitude, manage time, and build professional communication.

This experience shows that prospective law graduates need more than just good academic ability.

Integrity, discipline, precision, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility are also important parts of the competencies that need to be built since their time in college.

These values become increasingly important because professions in the legal field are directly related to the interests of the community, justice, and trust in law enforcement institutions.

Understanding the Role of Law Enforcement Institutions

The prosecutor's office is one of the most important institutions in the law enforcement system in Indonesia.

Through the internship program, students have the opportunity to see how a legal institution carries out its duties through various structured processes.

Students can also understand that every part of an institution has functions that are interrelated.

Administrative work, document management, internal coordination, and processes related to case handling are part of the work system that supports the execution of the prosecutor's duties.

This experience broadens students' perspectives on how the law is implemented in real life.

Getting to Know the Demands of the World of Work

The professional environment has different characteristics from academic life.

On campus, students deal more with theories, discussions, case analysis, and academic assignments. Meanwhile, in the world of work, students are required to be able to apply that knowledge by following predetermined procedures and mechanisms.

This condition encourages students to learn to adapt to professional work patterns.

Punctuality, the ability to work together, communication, and responsibility for work are skills that are also honed during the internship process.

For students of the Faculty of Law at Untag Surabaya, the internship experience at the East Java High Prosecutor's Office also provides an overview of the various responsibilities that might be faced if they later choose a career in the legal field.

A Bridge between Campus and the Professional World

The internship program can be a bridge between the academic world and the professional world.

Through direct experience in the law enforcement institution environment, students not only gain new knowledge but also have the opportunity to evaluate the extent to which the understanding gained during lectures can be applied in practice.

This experience can be a provision for developing academic and professional skills after completing their education.

For prospective legal practitioners, field experience also helps build a more critical, objective, and responsible mindset in viewing a legal issue.

The internship at the East Java High Prosecutor's Office also serves as a reminder that the law does not only consist of articles in legislation.

Behind every legal process, there are procedures, responsibilities, precision, and integrity that must be maintained by every party involved.

Ultimately, the internship is not just part of an academic obligation. The program is an opportunity for students to understand the reality of the legal world firsthand.

From the classroom to the practice room, students learn that becoming a legal professional requires more than just mastering theory. Professionalism, integrity, discipline, and a commitment to carrying out the law responsibly are inseparable parts of that journey.
