SURABAYA, JurnalPost.com – Internship experience serves as a vital bridge for law students to understand how the knowledge gained in the classroom is applied in a professional work environment. This opportunity was experienced by Reza Eka Saputra, a student from the Faculty of Law at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya, who completed an internship in the Legal Department of PT Japfa Indoled Center.
Through this program, Reza gained direct experience regarding the duties and responsibilities of a legal division in supporting a company's various legal requirements. The activities he participated in provided new insights, ranging from legal administration management and land document handling to observing the resolution of legal issues.
This experience served as a valuable opportunity to connect the theoretical knowledge acquired in university with the legal practices carried out within a corporate environment.
Understanding Legal Administration and Land Document Management
One of the tasks Reza learned during his internship was the categorization of Building Use Right (SHGB) certificates.
Through this activity, he understood the importance of managing land documents in a systematic, structured, and administratively orderly manner.
SHGB documents play a crucial role in proving land ownership rights. Therefore, proper archiving is necessary to ensure that documents are easily located, reviewed, and utilized when needed for the company's legal interests.
This activity also provided insight into the importance of precision in managing legal documents. Errors in categorization or recording can potentially lead to administrative obstacles that may affect the efficiency of work.
Observing Court Proceedings Firsthand
In addition to studying document administration, Reza had the opportunity to observe court proceedings.
This experience provided a clear picture of the stages of a trial, the case examination process, and the dynamics involved in the practice of law enforcement.
Through direct observation, he was able to compare the procedural law material studied in class with its application in the courtroom.

This opportunity also broadened his understanding of the roles of the parties involved in a trial and the importance of legal procedures in resolving a case.
This experience was a significant lesson, as students not only understand legal provisions through books and lectures but also witness how legal processes unfold in real time.
Learning to Trace Evidence for Legal Reporting
Another experience was gained through his involvement in searching for and tracing evidence required for compiling reports to the police.
In this activity, Reza learned the importance of precision in identifying, collecting, and aligning documents and information with the legal issues being handled.
He realized that drafting a legal report requires not only the ability to construct formal sentences but also meticulousness in ensuring the completeness of information and the relevance of supporting evidence.
Accuracy of information and completeness of documents are essential aspects to ensure that the compiled report has a clear basis and is accountable.
This experience also provided an understanding of the importance of coordination, responsibility, and caution when working in the field of corporate law.
Gaining Experience in Drafting Identity Determination Petitions
One of the most memorable experiences for Reza was the opportunity to learn how to draft a petition for the determination of a single identity.
This petition relates to the need to confirm an individual's identity when there are discrepancies in name spelling or identity data across various official documents.
Through this activity, Reza gained an understanding of how to draft legal petitions used in court proceedings.
The experience provided insight into the importance of identity consistency, the completeness of supporting documents, and precision in drafting legal petitions.
For law students, the opportunity to learn how to draft such documents is a practical experience that complements their theoretical understanding of procedural law and judicial administration.
Additionally, Reza was introduced to various tools and work facilities used by the company's Legal department.
This introduction helped him understand work systems, the use of supporting resources, and the importance of adaptability in a professional environment.
Internships as Preparation for the Workforce
The various activities during the internship provided an understanding that work in the corporate legal field has a broad scope.
The responsibilities of the legal department are not limited to resolving legal issues but also include managing administration, reviewing documents, fulfilling the company's legal needs, and supporting compliance and the legality of operational activities.
Reza expressed that the internship experience provided many lessons that could not be fully obtained through classroom learning.
“Through this internship at PT Japfa Indoled Center, students gain a wealth of experience that not only improves their understanding of legal practice but also trains them in precision, discipline, responsibility, and the ability to adapt to a professional work environment,” said Reza Eka Saputra, a student from the Faculty of Law at UNTAG Surabaya.
According to him, direct experience in a corporate environment is an opportunity to recognize job demands while developing the skills needed in the legal field.
Beyond broadening his perspective on corporate legal practice, the internship also taught him about the importance of professionalism, communication skills, and responsibility in completing tasks.
Through this experience, Reza increasingly understands that mastery of legal theory must be balanced with the ability to apply it in real-world situations.
This internship activity demonstrates the importance of the relationship between higher education and the industrial world in preparing graduates who possess both academic competence and practical experience.
With the experience gained during the internship, students are expected to be better prepared to face the challenges of the workforce, particularly in the fields of corporate law and legal administration.
