Corruption at Bank Sulselbar
The Pangkep District Attorney's Office press conference regarding the arrest of suspect MD, alias BC, in the alleged corruption case involving construction credit at Bank Sulselbar's Pangkep branch, Wednesday (August 26, 2026).

PANGKEP, JurnalPost.com - The Pangkep District Attorney's Office (Kejari) has arrested MD, alias BC, a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the disbursement of construction credit at PT Bank Sulselbar's Pangkep branch, who had been a fugitive since 2024.

MD, identified as the controller of CV Alif Sejahtera, was apprehended by a joint team in Jakarta on Friday, August 21, 2026. Following the arrest, the suspect was transported to Pangkep Regency for further questioning.

Head of the Pangkep District Attorney's Office, Jhon Ilef Malamassam, announced the arrest during a press conference at the Kejari Pangkep office on Wednesday (August 26, 2026). He was accompanied by the Head of the Special Crimes Section, Usman, and the Head of the Intelligence Section, Harsadi.

According to Jhon, MD had previously been uncooperative during the investigation process. The suspect failed to respond to three summonses from prosecutors and was subsequently found to have vacated his residence.

"The initial case occurred in 2024. After being summoned three times, MD was uncooperative. When we visited his home, he was gone. We initially received information that he was in Kalimantan, but after tracking him, he was not there; he had moved again," Jhon stated.

MD's whereabouts were eventually detected by the Fugitive Arrest Team (Tabur) of the South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office in coordination with Kejari Pangkep. Once his location was confirmed, the team executed the arrest in Jakarta.

"Thank God, last week, specifically on Friday (August 21, 2026), his position was identified and he was arrested in Jakarta, then ordered to be brought here. We are currently questioning MD; he was initially treated as a witness, and we have now elevated his status to suspect," Jhon said.

Alleged Rp1.2 Billion Construction Credit Corruption

The case originated in 2022. Investigators stated that MD acted as the controller of CV Alif Sejahtera and instructed the company's director to apply for construction credit from Bank Sulselbar's Pangkep branch.

The credit was intended to finance two projects: the construction of a river embankment in Pangkajene District and the development of a distribution network and household connections in Kassiloe Village, Labakkang District.

During the disbursement process, investigators suspect that MD colluded with the Credit Manager of Bank Sulselbar's Pangkep branch, identified as AF. The two allegedly agreed to unblock the disbursement of work installments without the knowledge of bank management.

"There was an agreement between AF (the bank official) and the creditor without the bank leadership's knowledge, allowing the funds to bypass the bank's standard deductions for principal loan repayments and instead flow directly into the CV Alif Sejahtera account," Jhon explained.

Kejari Pangkep stated that this mechanism resulted in funds that should have been used to repay the loan principal being diverted into the company's account, where they were allegedly misappropriated.

Based on the investigation results, the state financial loss in this case is estimated to reach approximately Rp1.2 billion.

Banking Suspect Processed Earlier

In a previous investigation in 2024, the bank official identified as AF was processed legally, while MD could not be questioned as his whereabouts were unknown.

AF initially received an acquittal (onslag) at the first instance level. Kejari Pangkep subsequently filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, which later declared AF guilty of corruption.

The arrest of MD now paves the way for investigators to continue handling the case that had previously remained incomplete.

During the investigation into MD, prosecutors have questioned at least 15 witnesses. The evidence used is also related to the evidence from the previous case, as the subject matter remains the same.

Detained at Pangkep Detention Center

Kejari Pangkep has charged MD under the provisions of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with the Law on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.

"The suspect is charged with violating Article 603 of the new Criminal Code (formerly Article 2 of the Corruption Eradication Law) in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law, in conjunction with Article 20 of the new Criminal Code, collectively. Alternatively, Article 604 of the new Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law, in conjunction with Article 20 of the new Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison," Jhon explained.

Following his examination, MD was detained and placed in the Class IIB Pangkep State Detention Center for further legal proceedings.
