BOYOLALI, JurnalPost.com – Students from the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Partnership Community Service Program (KKN) provided socialization, training, and mentoring on creating digital promotional content for the management of Umbul Langse and the residents of Nepen Village, Teras District, Boyolali Regency.
The activity, held in July 2026 at the Nepen Village Hall, aimed to improve the community's ability to utilize digital media as a tool to introduce village tourism potential to a wider audience.
This program is part of the UNS Partnership KKN in Nepen Village, which carries the theme “Empowering the Nepen Village Community Through Education, Health, and Economy.”
One of the key focuses of the activity was strengthening the community's ability to promote the Umbul Langse tourist attraction through various digital platforms.
Umbul Langse is a significant tourist asset in Nepen Village, offering a water-based destination for both local residents and visitors from outside the region.
However, based on the students' initial observations, promotion of the destination was still largely conducted through conventional methods. The use of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok was also considered suboptimal, limiting the reach of information about Umbul Langse to potential tourists.
Recognizing this, the KKN students introduced a program of socialization, training, and mentoring on digital content creation, designed to be practiced by residents using simple devices such as mobile phones.
Introducing Residents to Digital Promotion Strategies
During the session, participants gained an understanding of the importance of using digital media to promote tourist destinations.
The students explained several advantages of digital promotion, ranging from the ability to reach a wider pool of potential tourists and relatively affordable promotional costs, to the opportunity to deliver information to specific target audiences.
Participants were also introduced to the travel journey patterns of potential tourists when discovering destinations via the internet and social media.
This includes the stages of viewing content, developing interest, building trust in the destination, and finally making the decision to visit.

In addition to marketing strategies, participants were introduced to several platforms that can be used to support the promotion of Umbul Langse, including TikTok, Instagram, Google Maps, and WhatsApp.
Each platform serves a different function. Instagram and TikTok can be used to showcase visual content, Google Maps helps potential tourists find the location and destination information, while WhatsApp can be utilized as a communication tool with visitors.
Learning to Create Content via Mobile Phones
The training was not limited to theory; it was followed by hands-on practice in creating content using mobile phones.
Participants received guidance on basic techniques for taking photos and videos that are attractive for tourism promotion materials.
The KKN students also introduced the use of the CapCut application as a video editing tool that is relatively easy to use on mobile phones.
Participants were guided step-by-step, from downloading the application, importing photo and video materials, the editing process, saving the final video, to uploading the content to social media.
Beyond visual elements, participants gained knowledge on crafting promotional messages so that content can capture the attention of potential tourists.
The students provided examples of creating a hook or opening sentence, as well as simple captions that can be used to build curiosity and encourage potential visitors to learn more about Umbul Langse.
Encouraging Independent Tourism Promotion
The program was designed so that the community would not only understand the importance of digital promotion but also possess the practical skills to create and publish content independently.
By using mobile phones and easily accessible applications, the community is expected to be able to produce promotional materials without relying on complex technical skills.
The activity was initiated by Delvina Ratu Florenza, a student of the Communication Science Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret, as part of the UNS Partnership KKN program running from July to August 2026.
Through this socialization, training, and mentoring program, the Nepen Village community is expected to build a habit of consistent and routine digital promotion.
This capability is also expected to be utilized after the KKN period ends, so that information about Umbul Langse spreads further, the number of potential tourists increases, and the tourism potential of Nepen Village can continue to develop.
