Handover of the individual work program results, the chopper machine, to the head of the Cageran granary.

SLEMAN, JurnalPost.com – Students from the Community Service Program (KKN) Group 30232 at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) carried out an optimization project for feed chopper machines in Cageran Hamlet, Tamanmartani, Kalasan, Sleman, on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The activity targeted local residents working as farmers and livestock breeders, aiming to increase the use of appropriate technology to support agricultural and livestock activities.

The optimization of the chopper machine serves as a contribution by the students toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 9 regarding Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

Improving Feed Chopper Performance

During the activity, the students and the community worked together to make several improvements to the chopper machines used for processing animal feed.

Optimizations were made to several components, including the chopping speed, the blades, and the machine's overall operational efficiency. These adjustments were implemented to ensure the machines function more effectively and meet the community's specific needs.

The presence of the chopper machine is expected to help farmers and breeders reduce their reliance on manual feed processing methods.

With the machines operating more optimally, feed processing can be completed in less time, making the labor and time invested by the community more efficient.

Involving Farmers and Breeders

The chopper machine optimization project involved one farmer, one breeder, and five UNY KKN Group 30232 students.

The five students are Fatchurrahman Heza Alfarabi, Syurahbil Muhbit, Istianah Latifatuz Zahra, Alfi Nur Azumah, and Nisrina Aisyah.

Direct community involvement was not limited to the machine optimization process; it also provided farmers and breeders with the opportunity to understand how to operate and maintain the chopper machines.

Consequently, the technology introduced is expected to remain in use by the community long after the KKN program concludes.

This activity also aligns with SDG 8 regarding Decent Work and Economic Growth. The application of appropriate technology is considered a key factor in helping to increase the productivity of agricultural and livestock activities at the community level.

Expected to Provide Sustainable Benefits

The Head of Cageran Hamlet, Okky Linggarjati, stated that the optimization of the chopper machine provides significant benefits, particularly in accelerating animal feed processing.

"This chopper machine optimization is very helpful for the community, especially the farmers and breeders in Cageran Hamlet, in speeding up the feed chopping process and increasing work efficiency," said Okky.

He hopes that the use of this appropriate technology will not end with this project but will continue to be developed according to the community's needs.

"We hope that the use of such appropriate technology can continue to be developed so that it provides sustainable benefits for the community," he added.

Moving forward, the chopper machines in Cageran Hamlet are expected to be continuously utilized and improved to meet the needs of local farmers and breeders.

The program also serves as an implementation of the SDGs carried out by Yogyakarta State University students through the application of innovative, appropriate technology within the community.
