CEPU, JurnalPost.com — The sustainability of national oil and gas production is determined not only by sophisticated technology but also by the competence of the human resources operating in the field.

In an effort to strengthen the quality of the upstream oil and gas workforce, the Human Resources Development Center for Oil and Gas (PPSDM Migas) has once again partnered with ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL) to conduct training and certification programs.

The activities include Well Maintenance Training for Well Maintenance Control Experts as well as Instrumentation Training for Technician Level 2 which took place from October 5–10, 2026, in Cepu, Central Java.

The program was attended by EMCL employees as part of an effort to improve personnel competency while ensuring that oil and gas operations remain reliable, efficient, and compliant with workplace safety standards.

EMCL is a Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS) that plays a vital role in national oil and gas production, particularly through its management of the Banyu Urip Field in the Cepu Block.

Through this training, the workforce's competency is expected to be further strengthened to meet the demands of the oil and gas industry, which requires high levels of precision and safety.

PPSDM Migas instrumentation class instructor, Arsyadi Hidayat, stated that mastering control and instrumentation systems is essential for maintaining the reliability of production facilities.

“Instrumentation systems are the ‘central nervous system’ of all oil and gas production facilities. Through this Instrumentation Training for Technician Level 2, participants are taught to understand calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems with precision,” said Arsyadi Hidayat on the sidelines of the training.

According to him, this capability plays a crucial role in reducing potential disruptions to the production process.

“This expertise is necessary to prevent operational downtime while maintaining workplace safety in large-scale operation areas like EMCL,” he added.

In the Instrumentation Training for Technician Level 2, participants received technical reinforcement regarding measurement systems, control, calibration, maintenance, and fault identification for instrumentation devices used in oil and gas facilities.

Meanwhile, participants of the Well Maintenance Training for Well Maintenance Control Experts were equipped with various technical materials directly related to well maintenance and control activities.

The materials provided included Rig Equipment and Fishing Tools, Well Control, Well Control Simulation, Surface and Sub Surface Equipment, and Completion Fluids.

Understanding these materials is important because well maintenance activities require both technical mastery and the ability to make precise decisions when facing various operational conditions in the field.

In addition to improving individual competency, training and certification are also part of efforts to ensure that every person involved in upstream oil and gas activities possesses the skills required by industry standards.

The collaboration between PPSDM Migas and EMCL demonstrates the importance of synergy between human resource development institutions and industry players in building a professional and competent oil and gas workforce.

This increase in competency is also expected to contribute to improved operational efficiency, strengthened safety aspects, and the sustainability of national oil and gas production.

Through continuously conducted training programs, PPSDM Migas and EMCL are expected to continue supporting the creation of energy sector human resources capable of adapting to technological developments and the complexity of oil and gas operations.

This synergy also serves as a step toward maintaining the reliability of production activities at the Banyu Urip Field and supporting the achievement of national oil production targets in a safe, effective, and sustainable manner.
