CIBUBUR, JurnalPost.com — A total of 750 members of the SMP Labschool Cibubur community participated in a disaster management socialization and earthquake preparedness drill on Friday (9/10/2026). This activity, held in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), aims to enhance the understanding and capabilities of the school community in responding to emergency situations.
The hundreds of participants included students, teachers, educational staff, and representatives from the Parent-Teacher Association (POMG) of SMP Labschool Cibubur.
Through this initiative, the school seeks to build a culture of disaster awareness so that all members of the school community not only understand the risks but also know the necessary steps to take during an earthquake.
The session featured Tasril Mulyadi, a facilitator from BNPB, who provided training on earthquake preparedness, covering risk reduction efforts, personal protection, and evacuation procedures to safe assembly points.
The activity is part of the school's effort to strengthen its safety system while training students to remain calm, disciplined, and collaborative when facing emergencies.
Students Trained to Face Emergency Situations
Indonesia has a high level of earthquake vulnerability due to its location at the intersection of several active tectonic plates. This geographical condition makes disaster education essential to introduce from a young age.
During the socialization and preparedness drill, participants gained an understanding of potential hazards in the school environment and the self-protection measures required before, during, and after an earthquake.
The material provided also included an introduction to evacuation routes, self-rescue procedures, and the importance of following official instructions during an emergency.
Through hands-on training, students are expected to become accustomed to responding to emergency conditions in an organized manner without compromising their own safety or that of others.

The activity also served as a lesson in discipline and responsibility, as the evacuation process requires not only speed but also effective coordination to avoid creating additional risks.
The presence of BNPB through its Directorate of Disaster Preparedness further strengthened the school's efforts to integrate disaster mitigation education into its learning activities.
Principal: Preparedness Must Become a Culture
The Principal of SMP Labschool Cibubur, Mokahamad Taufiq, M.Pd.,stated that student safety is one of the school's primary responsibilities that must receive as much attention as academic achievement.
According to him, quality education must be supported by a safe learning environment and a school community capable of handling various potential emergency situations.
“It is not enough for a school to simply prepare students to excel academically. Schools also have a responsibility to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that can protect themselves and others when facing emergencies. Through our collaboration with BNPB, we want to build awareness that disaster preparedness is not just a ceremonial activity, but must become a culture embedded in the daily lives of all school members,” said Taufiq.
He explained that the formation of a disaster-aware culture is also linked to character education, particularly in building discipline, empathy, responsibility, and decision-making skills.
Therefore, it is hoped that the preparedness drill will not end with this socialization, but will be followed by regular habituation and evaluation of safety procedures.
“We hope that after participating in this activity, all members of SMP Labschool Cibubur will not only know what to do during an earthquake but will also be able to act calmly, purposefully, and responsibly. Safety is a vital foundation for quality education. An excellent school must also be a school that is safe and resilient to disasters,” he said.
POMG Encourages Disaster Education to Continue at Home
Support for the program was also expressed by the Chair of the POMG of SMP Labschool Cibubur, Andina Yunita Dewi, S.T.
According to Andina, disaster education needs to involve parents because an understanding of safety is not only needed by children at school but also in their daily lives.

“As parents, our greatest hope is that our children can learn in a safe and protected environment. We highly appreciate the initiative of SMP Labschool Cibubur, which does not only focus on improving academic quality but also pays serious attention to aspects of safety and disaster preparedness,” she said.
Andina hopes that the material received by students during the activity can be reinforced through communication and practice within the family.
In this way, children are expected to better understand the steps to take when facing emergency situations, both at school and at home.
“Disaster preparedness education should be part of family culture. What children learn at school needs to be reinforced at home so they grow into individuals who are responsive, do not panic easily, and care about the safety of others. The POMG supports positive collaborations like this because the safety of our children is a shared responsibility between the school and parents,” she explained.
Student Council President: Stay Calm and Care for Others
For the students, this activity provided direct experience in understanding the importance of being prepared for disasters.

The Student Council President of SMP Labschool Cibubur, Hanna Ameera, said that the drill made students realize that knowledge about earthquakes must be accompanied by the ability to take appropriate action.
“As students, we often hear about earthquakes through the news or in class. However, through this activity, we were invited to understand that knowledge alone is not enough. We must also know how to protect ourselves, follow instructions, and help maintain order when an emergency occurs,” said Hanna.
According to her, the preparedness drill also taught the importance of solidarity. In an emergency, everyone needs to maintain composure and look out for the safety of others.
“We learned that preparedness is not about who is the fastest to save themselves, but how everyone can remain calm, disciplined, and care about collective safety. As student council members, we want to encourage our friends to make disaster-responsive behavior a part of our positive habits at school,” she added.
Towards a Disaster-Safe Education Unit
The collaboration between SMP Labschool Cibubur and BNPB is also part of the school's efforts to strengthen preparedness toward implementing the Disaster-Safe Education Unit (SPAB) program.
The program places the safety of the school community, disaster risk reduction, emergency readiness, and the continuity of educational services as essential aspects of school management.
SMP Labschool Cibubur plans to continue strengthening disaster education, evaluating the readiness of facilities and evacuation routes, and encouraging the involvement of the entire school community in safety activities.
Regular drills are considered important so that the knowledge and skills acquired can be consistently applied when needed.
Through this collaboration with BNPB, the school hopes that students, teachers, staff, and parents will have a shared understanding of the importance of disaster preparedness.
Thus, the effort to create a safe school is realized not only through the provision of facilities but also through the readiness of the entire school community to act quickly, accurately, and protect one another when facing emergency situations.
