Semarang, JurnalPost.com – Six students from the Bachelor of Public Health (SKM) program at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), carried out the SKM Health Education Drivers in Schools program at SDN Plalangan 01, Gunungpati District, Semarang City.
The initiative, which carried the tagline “Mobilizing Schools, Building a Healthy Generation,” took place over four weeks, from September 7 to October 2, 2026.
This program is part of a Field Work Practice (PKL) designed to encourage students to collaborate with elementary schools in developing health education and behaviors tailored to the school's specific needs and potential.
During the implementation, the students did not just provide health education. They also acted as empowerment facilitators by identifying needs, determining priority issues with the school, developing interventions, and assisting the school community in building capacity and independence in health matters.
The SKM Driver Team 23 consists of six students from various specializations, namely Braina Brilliana from Epidemiology, Zaenal Abidin and Luna Anisa Purnomo from Health Administration and Policy, Safira Ni’matul Ulya from Biostatistics and Population, Shafira Al-Fatin Salsabila from Environmental Health, and Irene Mayzi Colline Br Manurung from Health Promotion.
This interdisciplinary background allowed school health issues to be examined and addressed through various approaches.
Starting with School Health Mapping
The series of activities began on September 7–9, 2026, through coordination with SDN Plalangan 01. In the initial stage, the students introduced themselves, agreed on the activity schedule, and assigned roles for the duration of the program.
The next stage was carried out on September 10–13, involving mapping and assessing the school's condition. The students observed the school environment, collected preliminary data, and communicated with teachers and students to gain an overview of health issues requiring attention.
The data obtained was then analyzed on September 14–15, 2026. The results of this analysis served as the basis for determining priority issues and developing various flagship programs, supporting media, and evaluation instruments.
From Student Screenings to Strengthening the School Clinic (UKS)
During the period of September 16–28, 2026, each student carried out two flagship programs according to their specialization.
In the field of Epidemiology, Braina Brilliana conducted disease risk factor screenings for fifth and sixth-grade students. Additionally, an analysis of risk factors related to students' clean and healthy living behaviors was performed. The results were compiled into an analysis report and a policy brief that can serve as reference material for the school.
From the field of Health Administration and Policy, Zaenal Abidin developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for school health and a draft policy for a healthy canteen. Meanwhile, Luna Anisa Purnomo conducted a management audit of the School Health Unit (UKS) and established UKS service standards.

In the specialization of Biostatistics and Population, Safira Ni’matul Ulya analyzed the nutritional status of fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students. The program was complemented by the creation of a school demographic profile book as a source of information for future school planning.
In the field of Environmental Health, Shafira Al-Fatin Salsabila conducted an audit of the school's environmental sanitation and initiated a mosquito-larvae-free school program as part of efforts to create a cleaner and healthier learning environment.
Meanwhile, from the field of Health Promotion, Irene Mayzi Colline Br Manurung carried out a Healthy Living Community Movement (GERMAS) campaign within the school. The program included a healthy breakfast movement and physical activity to encourage the formation of healthy habits from a young age.
Promoting Sustainable Health Programs
All program achievements were measured and evaluated on September 29–30, 2026. The evaluation was conducted to assess the success of the activities and identify aspects that the school could further develop.
The peak of the activities took place on October 1, 2026, with the presentation of results and the handover of various program outputs to SDN Plalangan 01.
Subsequently, on October 2, 2026, the students and the school developed a follow-up plan and concluded the series of activities. This step was taken to ensure that the programs implemented would not cease after the internship ended, but could be continued and developed independently by the school.
In addition to producing individual outputs according to their specializations, the SKM Driver Team 23 also compiled a group output in the form of a mass media article as documentation of the health education program at SDN Plalangan 01.
Through this program, the students hope that the SDN Plalangan 01 community will become more independent in maintaining their health and capable of creating a clean, healthy, and safe learning environment.
The collaboration between the university and the elementary school is also expected to be further developed as a step toward building awareness and healthy living habits from an early age.
